This paper highlights the importance of the apparel and footwear sector for women’s employment and the gendered nature of the industry; summarizes the literature on the effects of industrial automation and digitization on employment in the industry, in particular their gender dimensions; and presents a brief overview of the apparel and footwear sector in the project countries, namely Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, Romania and Spain.

Global Employment Trends for Youth 2022: Investing in transforming futures for young people

The 2022 edition discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on young people and their labour market prospects during the recovery and beyond. Youth have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and youth labour markets are now being buffeted by the lingering impacts of the pandemic, geopolitical risks and macroeconomic risks such as the impact of supply chain disruptions and rising inflation, particularly that of food and energy. There is also the potential permanent damage wreaked by these crises on the fabric of labour markets.

Making TVET and skills systems inclusive of persons with disabilities

This brief outlines the steps involved in making TVET programs accessible to persons with disabilities. It examines different barriers to inclusion and how these can be overcome, building on good practice examples worldwide. It looks at how mainstream systems can benefit from alliances with workers’ and employers’ organizations, specialist agencies catering to persons with disabilities, and organizations of persons with disabilities.

Labour market inclusion of people with disabilities

The report shows the need for comprehensive and inclusive policies that address the demand and supply side of the labour market, working both with employers and persons with disabilities. Promoting the labour market inclusion of persons with disabilities requires mainstream and specialized services, as well as promoting an environment that is more conducive to decent work for persons with disabilities. Incentives need to be generated for persons with disabilities, employers and institutions to promote the entry and retention of persons with disabilities in the labour market.

Growing green: Fostering a green entrepreneurial ecosystem for youth

The research reviews the entrepreneurial ecosystem to assess the capacity to foster young green entrepreneurship and address social and environmental challenges. The report considers from the perspective of key stakeholders, primarily those providing business development services and experts in the field of youth and social entrepreneurship and government representatives and entrepreneurs themselves.
