Demand-Driven Skills Training and Results-Based Contracting : Lessons for Youth Employment Programs

This report reviews the literature, identifies project examples, and derives lessons for the design and implementation of demand-driven training (DDT) and results-based financing (RBF). A summary of the existing literature on international experiences with DDT and RBF, including good practices, is presented here. This review aims to identify the most effective ways to deliver these programs and provide general lessons on their design and implementation.

Supported by Gates Foundation, the report examines the market of tech-enabled career products that have emerged to help provide better career navigation and guidance. It also looks the potential of scaling guidance using online platforms, apps, gamified assessments, and multimedia. 

Skills for Green Jobs

This document shows that skills development is critical to unlocking the employment potential of green growth, yet skills shortages are becoming an obstacle in realizing this potential. The report recommends that countries devise strategies based on well-informed policy decisions, social dialogue, and coordination among ministries and between employers and training providers.

TVET for a Green Economy

The report recommends improving the coherence between national sustainability strategies and policies and TVET by developing green vocational training strategies and increasing the private sector's participation within this process. Furthermore, environmental protection, resource efficiency, and renewable energies should be anchored in curricula on the level of vocational training and continuing education, supporting the process with human resource measurements and greening TVET institutions.

VET Toolbox

The VET Toolbox supports countries by strengthening their capacity to implement VET and labor market reforms that enhance labor market relevance and employability for all, particularly by: applying evidence-based VET and labor market programming; operationalizing private sector involvement in VET and labor market activities, and, enhancing the inclusion of vulnerable groups in VET and formal and informal labor market activities. The VET Toolbox is a multi-partner project between Enabel, LuxDev, British Council, GIZ, and AFD.

IFC’s Vitae: Improving Graduate Employability

An innovation of IFC, Vitae helps higher education institutions understand how well they’re preparing students for the workforce. It’s a data-driven approach for public and private institutions to evaluate themselves against a global benchmark of good practices. Vitae identifies employability gaps and proposes practical interventions to equip an institution to chart a path to transformation.

Power Learning Tool

The tool includes training, assessment, and digital learning tools for companies to strengthen employees' soft skills. This tool focuses on a set of  10 soft skills deemed essential in the world of work‒ communication, higher-order thinking, collaboration, positive self-concept, adaptability, interdisciplinarity, resilience, entrepreneurial thinking, empathy, inclusiveness.
