The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation is an international charity supporting young people to find their purpose, passion and place in the world. Founded in 1956, the Award highlights the value of Non-Formal Education and Learning. We’re on a mission to increase the Award’s global access, reach and impact. And we want to do this by raising and granting funds to scale up operations, increasing diversity and inclusion, campaigning to raise the profile of Non-Formal Education and Learning, broadening our network of volunteers and operators, and ensuring participation is affordable for all.

The (International Accreditation Forum) IAF licenses delivery of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a globally recognized Non-Formal Education and Learning framework. The IAF works with 64 national operators who have an exclusive license to deliver the Award within that country or territory. The IAF directly licenses over 460 organizations spread across a further 65 countries.

In 2023 over 1.1m young people started their Award journey. The Award is delivered to young people through partner organizations which already work with young people. This allows the Award to reach young people from a huge range of backgrounds crossing socio-economic and community divides.

Young people’s participation in the Award is dependent on the assistance of hundreds of thousands of volunteers who support them through the sections of the Award.
